In an attempt to study human behaviour it is essential to adopt an outlook by
encompassing the proximate and ultimate; the universal and unique aspects of behaviour. Post
graduate programme focusing on behaviour intends to impart sound knowledge of theory, skill
development among students, introduction towards training methods, and above all instilling
aptitude and attitude in budding psychologists. Applied psychology in addition provides
extended service towards society. Core papers reach out towards language, culture, history,
society and politics.

Electives are designed with purpose towards application. While constructing
core and elective papers its implication at national, international and global level were
considered. The ultimate beneficiary of Syllabus is students and so the primary goal is to inspire
and develop skill within them. Department of Psychology, University of Calicut established as
the second department in Kerala with a legacy of around forty three years, has always been its
forefront in social extension programmes and field experiments, for training purpose practicum
and lab experiments always paved way.

In the present dynamic and challenging era, application of research findings in
psychology provides an important means of dealing with, managing and solving human and
environmental issues. This has led to the field of Applied Psychology gathering a spectacular
momentum in recent years. It is within this context that this post graduate programme in
Applied Psychology has been envisioned with a comprehensive curriculum. The syllabus has
been planned with the aim of equipping future applied psychologists with theoretical knowledge,
applied skills, as well as sensitivity to the relevant psycho-socio-political issues around them.
The CCSS offers students the opportunity for exposure to different domains within applied
psychology such a Clinical and Consulting Psychology, Health Psychology, Organization
Behaviour, Social Psychology, Crime and Forensic Psychology, Training Methodology, so on
and so forth, as well as providing a grounding in Cognition, Neuropsychology and Research
Methodology.
Shaping social and cultural concerns of individuals, groups and collectives with a deep
sense of rootedness in our own soil with a global outlook could be considered a critical goal of
higher education in social sciences in general, and psychology in particular. To this end,
educational institutions have the prime responsibility of shaping the cognitive, affective and
behavioral ability of the student and build responsible and responsive citizenry.

To prepare academically sound, reflective, and socially responsible psychologists who would be
capable of balancing the demands in their chosen area of work without compromising on ethical
and cultural sensitivity.

7. To become sensitive to marginalization (gender, caste, class, sexuality) and cultural aspects
and its intersections in the field of psychology
8. To create awareness about environment the need for immediate action for its protection and
reflect on what one can do as an individual and as a professional in this sphere
